Concord Farms, Inc. was established in 1987, growing Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms at its farms in Half Moon Bay, California. In 1992, the company began importing fresh Shiitake mushrooms from China to reduce production costs and increase sales. We expanded to a second farm in 1993, enabling the company to double its production of oyster mushrooms. In 1994, a joint venture was formed with a farm in China to balance production levels and help maintain a consistent flow of produce. By 1997, we became the largest producer in volume of oyster mushrooms in the U.S. We broadened our product line by distributing Enoki, King Oyster, Abalone and Wood Ear mushrooms from China and Maitake mushrooms from Japan. In 2001, we opened our Southern California distribution warehouse. This expansion helped us shorten our leadtimes and allowed us to ship fresher products to our customers.
Today, Concord Farms produces over 2,000 pounds of Oyster mushrooms per day. We import an average of seven 40-foot containers of various mushrooms and produce per week including gobo, nagaimo, bamboo shoots, ginger, and garlic from China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. We require our vendors to follow stringent quality controls to ensure the freshest product upon arrival.
Our distribution warehouses total over 20,000 square feet in both northern and southern California locations. We handle daily air shipments to over 15 states, including Hawaii, and our fleet of trucks deliver to many local supermarkets in the Bay Area and Los Angeles and Orange County regions.
